Thankful

With all the grousing about the state of our nation and the world, it could easily be the case that giving thanks this week could be overwhelmed.  Abounding negativity can all too easily obscure that for which we are thankful.

Take the time to carefully consider that for which you are thankful.

In this gray beard's world, I am thankful for the following:

  • Our loving and forgiving God.
  • A wonderful, healthful family.
  • My bride of nearly 43 years.
  • Terrific grand children.
  • Close, meaningful friendships.
  • Personal health.
  • Continued ability and desire to rigorously exercise each and every day.
  • Having a roof over our heads and food on the table.
  • Having proudly served our nation for more than 30 years.
  • The natural beauties of this great nation.
  • Humor.
  • Being an American.
  • The security provided by the men and women in our armed forces.

  • The sacrifices of military families, particularly when their soldier, sailor, airman, or Marine is deployed.

  • Freedom.
As I sit down to enjoy our Thanksgiving meal on Thursday, I will include a prayer for those men and women who wear the cloth of our nation and are away from their loved ones, as I experienced all too many times.  I will pray for their safety and that they may enjoy next Thanksgiving with family and friends.

May you all enjoy  wonderful Thanksgiving replete with family and friends, a good meal, laughter, and humility.
